Following are resources which may be of help to therapists and counselors in the work of EFP. I have been associated with some of them as a member and/or as a consumer. Others I have become aware of through research. I do not in any way endorse these organizations or their work except to say that in this emerging field, they have much to offer. Organizations Which Provide Training And Certification www.naropa.edu - The faculty of Naropa University, under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, have established requirements and criteria for graduation with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts. These requirements include both the breadth and depth of study traditionally associated with the liberal arts tradition in higher education. In addition, the university's contemplative arts requirements effectively unite the learning of the classroom with personal awareness disciplines. Though no official program is currently established, Naropa University is encouraging interest in work with animals as an alternative and growing area of therapy. www.prescott.edu - The Prescott College Master of Arts Program is excited to offer study in Equine Assisted Mental health. This concentration allows students seeking licensure or certification as a psychotherapist or in counceling psychology to develop competence in the rapidly evolving area of EAMH. In addition to the established core requirements designed for professional licensure, this course work explores the theoretical understanding, ethical issues, facilitation skills, and relational horsemanship skills crucial for mastery in this area of counceling.
www.narha.org - Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association sets standards for care of horses, safety of operation, training and credentialing for riding instructors and provides accreditation to programs. Insurance is available for member centers. EFMHA is currently developing a credential for the equine professional/therapist and is setting standards. All categories are applicable. EFMHA sells an annotated bibliography of books, articles, dissertations. It can be purchased by calling NARHA directly. The draw-back is that obtaining the citations is sometimes impossible. www.eagala.org - Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association: Addresses the need for resources, education, professionalism in the field. EAGALA is a private non-profit organization which provides training for horse specialists and therapists at three levels. This training emphasizes the need for a team of a licensed mental health professional and horse specialist to work during therapy sessions. EAGALA is currently looking at the possibility of certifying for experiential learning as well as therapy. They provide a yearly conference and trainings throughout U.S. and Canada. Trainings are approved by NAADAC and some state licensing boards for continuing education units (can obtain up to 24 hours for Level I training).

www.horse-power.org - Horse Power at Pony Farm provides a myriad of services and training for a variety of aspects of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy/Equine Experiential Learning. Executive Director Boo McDaniel was co-founder of EFMHA.
www.adventuresinawareness.net - Barbara Rector provides professional growth and training through Equine Experiential Learning. She emphasizes the relationship between humans and equine by exploring the gestalt which occurs during activities. Her work is dynamic and spiritual. The Adventures In Awareness Internship Program (AIA IP) is designed to prepare professionals for work in the field of Equine Guided Education and/or Equine Facilitated Mental Health. AIA is defined as Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning (EFEL) process work. The AIA Internship Program provides therapists, coaches, educators and individuals with a practical curriculum, including theory, principles, practicum inner-activities and equestrian skills for wellness work with horses. The AIA model is based on the premise that conscious awareness is key to healthy change. Awareness coupled with exploration of consciousness creates an atmosphere for openness and connectedness where the responses from our equine facilitators may move us at a very deep level. www.leadershipandhorses.com - Equine Guided Education Certification Program - . Organizations Which Provide Education And Information www.animalsystems.org - This unique mixture of horse and companion animal facilities and an environmentally sensitive natural area provides excellent opportunities for cross-disciplinary work. A wide variety of clients as well as different animal species and the unique natural setting enables professionals, students and researchers to gain experience and evaluate specifically designed processes for encouraging change.
www.Pan-inc.org - People, Animals, Nature, Inc. advocates a better integration of animals and natural settings into the human experience. This organization supports work with many species of animals and plants as well as other nature-associated activities.
www.deltasociety.org - Delta Society promotes Animal Assisted Therapy/Animal Assisted Activities (AAA/AAT), through the Human-Animal Health Connection. This organization has been a leader in the field in terms of validating the connection and importance of animals in our lives. Wonderful site if you are looking for information for thesis.
